President of Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau has congratulated three prominent members of the Nigerian football family who were triumphant in the national elections held at the weekend.
Chairman, Katsina State FA and Chairman of the NFF Committee on Youth Competitions, Balele Kurfi, as well as the General Manager of Nigeria Professional Football League side, Remo Stars, Ekene Adams, won their respective elections into the House of Represntatives while the the proprietor of FC IfeanyiUbah, Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, was reelected to the Senate.
Kurfi was elected to the House of Representatives from the Dutsin-ma/Kurfi Federal Constituency of Katsina State on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, while Adams won the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State under the Labour Party.
Ifeanyi Ubah, on the other hand, was re-elected into the Anambra South Senatorial District under the Young Peoples’ Party.
Gusau said, “We are happy at the triumphs of these members of the Nigerian football family. We heartily congratulate them and wish them the very best as they become Federal legislators, with the opportunities to initiate legislation that will favour football and other sectors of Nigerian life.
“We will continue to pray for them so that God will give them the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to work assiduously for the development and real growth of Nigeria Football while in the 10th session of the National Assembly.”
Meanwhile, former sports minister, Solomon Dalung, lost his bid to be elected to the House of Representatives in Plateau State.
The former minister, who contested under the platform of Social Democratic Party, polled 3,369 votes and came third behind the People’s Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress candidates in his Langtang North/Langtang South Constituency.
The eventual winner of the contest, Beni Lar, of the PDP scored 42,008 votes and will be representing the constituency for the fifth time.
The runner-up of the contest, Vincent Bulus, of the ruling APC, scored 21,345 votes.
