In a publication by Whoscored.com, a football statistics website, Super Eagles right-back Tyronne Ebuehi, has been named in the Italian Serie A Team of The Week, following his outstanding performance for Empoli on match-day 34 of the league.
The 27-year-old was handed a starting role by Paolo Zanetti and he grabbed the rare opportunity with both hands as he repaid the manager with two assists in Empoli’s 2-1 win over Salernitana on Monday to end the Granata’s 10-match unbeaten run and break away from the relegation zone.
The defender gave Nicolo Cambiaghi the pass to net the opener for the home side in the 38th minute and ensured his side secured the three points after Francesco Caputo converted a through ball from Ebuehi for the second goal.
Against Salernitana, Ebuehi was rated 8.0 and his 52 touches of the ball saw him make 32 passes, including two passes which resulted in assists.
The 27-year-old registered a game-high five clearances, made one tackle, gave away one foul and won two aerial duels over the course of the 87 minutes he spent on the pitch.
For his impressive display, the defender on Tuesday was named as the best right-back for match-day 34, thus earning his place in the Serie A Team of The Week.
Cremonese’s Marco Carnesecchi was selected as the best goalkeeper after keeping a clean sheet against Spezia.
In a 4-4-2 formation, Ebuehi, Johan Vasquez, Adam Masina and Theo Hernandez occupied the defensive positions.
Ismael Bennacer, Domenico Berardi, Nicolo Cambiaghi and Oliver Abildgaard are the players in midfield, while Daniel Ciofani and Antonio Sanabria spearhead the attack.
