Former Enyimba, Remo Stars and Katsina United striker, Victor Mbaoma, who turned down the chance to continue in the Nigeria Premier Football League last year and opted for APR in the Rwanda Premier League, has crowned his first season with the league title, the joint-highest goal scorer award and an unbeaten run in 30 games, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

APR ended the season on Sunday with a 1-1 draw at home against Amagaju, lifting the title afterwards following a run that saw them win the league with 68 points.

They finished 11 points above their closest challengers Rayon Sports to claim their 22nd Rwandan league title.

The icing on the cake for Mbaoma was becoming the joint-highest goal scorer with 15 goals.

“I came, I saw and I conquered,” the player wrote on Facebook.

“It’s been a long way to achieve this but trust me, I am super excited being the champion and the league joint top scorer with 15 goals and 20 goals in all competitions this season, and 30 games unbeaten.

“It’s a season to remember.  Thank you to everyone who supported me in one way or the other.”

Mbaoma signed a two-year deal with the 22-time Rwandan league champions, who were founded in 1993.

During his time in the NPFL, the 27-year-old was also prolific in front of goal. In 2022, he was the joint top scorer in the NPFL with 16 goals before he dumped Enyimba for Algerian side Mouloudia Club Oranais.

After ending his contract in Algeria, he had a short stint with Katsina United during the Nigeria National League playoffs, where he scored four goals in three games to help them return to the topflight just after a year in the second division.

He was then courted by his former side Remo Stars before he snubbed them for a move to Rwanda, where he is now a league champion.
