Guinea-Bissau will hope to strengthen their grip of a 2023 AFCON ticket when they face Sao Tome and Principe in a Group A match-day five qualifier on Wednesday (today).
Having beaten Sao Tome 5-0 during their first meeting last year, coach Baciro Cande is targeting another win against the bottom-placed side in Group A in order to top the group temporarily ahead of Nigeria.
The hosts, Sao Tome, remain without a victory after four matches, while the visitors go in search of a victory, which would put them in pole position to finish as runners-up.
The Djurtus are already on seven points and a win for Nigeria against Sierra Leone will also boost their chances of playing at the tournament in Ivory Coast next year.
Guinea-Bissau are targeting their fourth appearance at the AFCON. They made their debut in 2017 and qualified again in 2019 and 2021.
