Devils plot Saint-Maximin swoop

Manchester United are reportedly considering a shock move for Allan Saint-Maximin.
The Newcastle winger, 25, has made an eye-catching start to the season, grabbing two assists during the Magpies’ thrilling 3-3 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.
United have been linked with a number of wingers — including Ajax star Antony and Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic — as Erik ten Hag looks to revamp his attack.
And reports in France say Saint-Maximin is another target they are considering.
The Red Devils kick-started their season with an impressive 2-1 win over Liverpool last night thanks to strikes from forwards Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.
Adding the French flyer to their ranks would further bolster Ten Hag’s options, with club chiefs said to be attracted by his “explosive profile”.
It is indicated that United are not ruling out an approach for the former Nice ace before the transfer window closes.
In action against champions Manchester City last weekend, Saint-Maximin was one of the game’s best players. Causing Kyle Walker no end of problems all afternoon, the explosive wide-man showed glimpses of the potential he has been expected to fulfil.
Although not yet the finished article, there is no denying that the 25-year-old is on course to have a great season, but following these reports, fans will be wondering if he could find himself at a new club before the transfer window closes in a week’s time.
Following the indefinite suspension of Mason Greenwood, as well as the inexperience of the likes of Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo, ten Hag could do with more wide options.
However, seemingly prioritising the signing of Ajax’s Antony, the Red Devils’ pursuit of Saint-Maximin will likely depend on Ajax’s decision to sell their number 22 or not.
The Brazil international has agreed personal terms for a switch to Old Trafford, according to The Sun.
The 22-year-old was left out of Ajax’s squad to face Sparta Rotterdam at the weekend after reportedly not turning up for training.
