Manchester United are reportedly confident that Cristiano Ronaldo will remain at the club for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.
The Portugal international expressed a desire to leave Old Trafford in the summer as he sought out a Champions League side, but no move away materialised, ensuring he remained with United where he has only started one Premier League game this season.
However, with his contract set to expire next summer and playing time proving to be at a premium, there has been a suggestion that the 37-year-old could depart in the winter transfer window.
According to the Daily Mail, United are confident of keeping Ronaldo in January, despite the fact he would be entering the final six months of his deal.
The likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid, Napoli and Bayern Munich all turned down the opportunity to sign Ronaldo in the summer transfer window, and the Red Devils believe that the forward would find himself in a similar situation in January, with no viable clubs believed to be interested.
United are also reluctant to allow Ronaldo to leave, as Erik ten Hag would be unable to buy a replacement until next summer.
Although a January departure appears to be unlikely, Ronaldo can begin negotiating with foreign clubs in the new year.
