Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers has been tipped to score 20 goals for Rangers this season if he stays fit, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The striker has been much maligned at times this season but his goal in the 2-0 triumph over St Johnstone on December 20 took him to nine goals in all competitions for the season.
The 29-year-old has four goals in his past six games, and five from his past nine and according to Daily Record writer Fraser Wilson, there is now no reason why he should not be aiming for the fabled 20-goal mark, so long as he stays fit.
“It’s beginning to look like he will (get 20 goals) – so long as he avoids injury and keeps his place in the team,” he wrote for the Daily Record on Saturday.
“He’s playing with confidence and showing decent movement in the box as well as a goal a game record recently. Twenty should be the target.”
Dessers has turned the story around at the Ibrox stadium as plenty of pundits and a lot of fans were suggesting might have been moved on in January despite only arriving in the summer.
His start to the season was not great and he looked low on confidence leading to a pretty poor goals return. But fate has sort of worked in his favour, with Danilo out for around four months and Kemar Roofe unable to stay fit.
He has taken his chances in recent weeks and the shirt should belong to him if he continues to provide the goods.
However, Rangers might still be targeting more firepower in the January window as they cannot rely solely on Dessers especially as they have qualified for the Europa League knockout stages.
