Following growing speculations linking Nigeria international Victor Osimhem out of the Stadio Amando Maradona in the summer transfer window, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis, is set to hold talks with Osimhen’s agent, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 24-year-old future is set to be a major talking point and Napoli are under pressure to keep their most valuable player.
The Nigerian striker enjoyed a superb 2022/23 season in the Serie A where he registered 26 goals and four assists in 32 league appearances for the Gli Azzurri.
His impressive outing helped fire the Partenopei to their first Serie A title since 1990 and was named Serie A Striker of the Season.
Several Premier League clubs have reportedly been interested in acquiring his signature with Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid also in the race to sign the Nigerian whose contract expires in 2025.
According to Calciomercato De Laurentiis wants to know the stand of the Nigerian striker if he still wants to stay or leave the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in the summer transfer window.
“A meeting with the player’s agent will probably be scheduled for next week,” as quoted by Calciomercato.
“Napoli want clarity from Victor Osimhen as President De Laurentiis is in a hurry to know if the Nigerian attacker wants to stay or leave.”
The Nigerian striker was signed for €75m plus add-ons from French side Lille in September 2020 and is under contract until June 2025 and De Laurentiis does not want to run the risk of selling the Super Eagles striker at a reduced fee.
“Should he opt to stay, the club will start discussions shortly after for a renewal of his contract, which has not been discussed for now.
“Osimhen’s contract will expire in 2025 and De Laurentiis does not want to run the risk that a reduced residual duration of the contract could devalue him.”
