Dakkada FC have been relegated from the Nigeria Professional Football League after their poor 2022/23 season dipped with a 1-1 draw against Lobi Stars in Uyo on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The match-day 17 encounter would have offered them a lifeline until the last day of the regular season, but their inability to win confirmed their relegation to the NNL with one match-day left.
After a goalless first half, Lanre Akinlade gave Dakkada a glimpse of hope with a goal in the 47th minute, but the joy of the home faithfuls was shortlived as Elijah Ani restored parity from the spot after Joseph Atule was fouled inside the Dakkada box.
The draw leaves them on 13 points from 17 matches, five points below Bayelsa United who are seventh.
Founded in 2004 and formerly known as Akwa Starlets, the club gained promotion to the topflight in 2019.
Dakkada ran as the sister club of 2021 champions Akwa United, but the fortunes of the club on the pitch took a downturn last season when they struggled to beat the drop.
Their struggles continued in the 2022/23 abridged season and we’re eventually overwhelmed after losing 10 out of their 17 matches so far this season. They managed three wins and four draws in those games.
