The Nigeria Cricket Federation has postponed the 2023 National U-17 Cricket Championship finals initially scheduled to hold between February 15 to 19 in Abuja until further notice.

According to a statement signed by the General Manager of the federation, Emeka Igwilo, the postponement was necessitated by the current situation of the country, as well as the upcoming general elections.

“This is to formally notify all states and regions that the proposed finals of the fourth edition of the National U-17 Cricket Championship powered by PwC earlier slated for 15th to 19th February 2023 has been postponed due to the current situation across the country and the national elections coming up.

“New date will be released as soon as the new schedule is confirmed. We apologise for any inconveniences the postponement might have caused,” the statement read.

Nine states across the six geo-political zones of the country have already booked their places in the finals following completion of the zonal eliminations.

To book their place in the finals, Oyo State dominated the male and female categories in the southwest zone, just as Edo and Gombe states also dominated both categories in the south-south and northeast zones respectively.

Imo and Ebonyi states picked the male and female tickets respectively in the southeast zone, Kogi and Kwara came tops in north central, while Kaduna and Kebbi states emerged from the northwest zone.

Igwilo assured that the federation was poised to ensure the development of cricket to get the growth and attention it deserved.
