Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes Napoli striker Victor Osimhen could be a ‘natural fit’ for United amid interest in signing the Nigerian international.

Osimhen, 24, is of interest to the United and has made his way into their list of targets to strengthen their attacking options this forthcoming summer. The recruitment of a new, big-name striker is set to take priority for the club ahead of next season, as they prepare to move to the second phase of their squad rebuild under Erik ten Hag.

United have added to their pool of forward options already in this month’s window, signing Burnley striker Wout Weghorst on loan for the remainder of the season. The Netherlands international, who made his debut during Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, is considered a short-term option to help the Reds get through to the end of this season.

Osimhen, who has plundered an impressive 13 goals in just 18 games for Napoli so far this season, is one of the most highly sought-after strikers in Europe, meaning he is likely to attract plenty of attention over the coming months. Many United supporters have already pinpointed him as a player they would like to see added to Ten Hag’s squad, mainly for the same reasons as outlined by former goal-getter Cole.

“I think Victor Osimhen at Napoli is very good and could be the long-term natural fit,” Cole told Betway. “The question is whether Napoli would be prepared to let him go.

“He’s rangy, got a good first touch, scores goals and is a decent size as well. I watched him play against Liverpool [in the Champions League] and he was more than prepared to link the play and then run in behind.”

The Nigeria international has scored 41 goals in 80 appearances for Napoli and is currently the leading goalscorer in Serie A this season and has played a key role in the Italian giants fine run.

The Naples currently boasting a nine-point advantage over AC Milan in second. It means, should Napoli win their first Serie A title since 1990, it would drive Osimhen’s valuation up even higher.
