English Premier League side, Brighton & Hove Albion, are reportedly interested in signing Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey from Ajax and also have an eye on his club teammate Mohammed Kudus, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Seagulls were interested in Bassey last summer, but the Nigeria international opted for a move to Amsterdam.
The 23-year-old left Ibrox in the summer, with the Gers striking a reported £23m deal with Ajax under Ross Wilson, a record sale for the Scottish Giants.
However, things haven’t exactly gone to plan for Bassey at Ajax and now there is talk of interest from the Premier League.
Amid a season of big changes at the Amsterdam Arena, the Nigerian has often been the scapegoat for poor performances and stumbling league form, with Ajax ending the season in third position in the Dutch topflight.
It’s the first time since 2009 that the Dutch giants failed to finish in a Champions League qualification spot.
Despite the development, Bassey is high on Roberto De Zerbi’s list of transfer targets.
Bassey scored one goal and provided three assists in 39 appearances for the Dutch giants last season.
Brighton, who finished in sixth place in the Premier League last season, are also looking to sign Kudus.
The Ghanaian midfielder is currently valued at £40m after a superb season. The 22-year-old scored 18 goals and provided six assists in 42 appearances.
