Nigeria international Josh Maja could stay put at FC Girondins de Bordeaux amid interest from Scottish giants Rangers FC.
The French club is keen on tying him down to a new contract after his previous deal with the Ligue 2 outfit ended on Friday.
This has been confirmed by Bordeaux owner Gerard Lopez who made it clear that they want to keep Maja ahead of the 2023-24 season.
“We had discussions,” Lopez told France Bleu, via Girondins4ever.
“We really like Josh, he was also important during the season. He is a player who has opportunities elsewhere,”
“We made a proposal, it’s not finished yet, but here it is, it may be more complicated. Yes, you could say that I am less optimistic than Stian Gregersen.”
The 24-year-old striker joined Bordeaux from English club Sunderland on a four-and-a-half-year contract in January 2019.
He netted 16 goals from 38 Ligue 2 matches for Bordeaux in the recent season and he has been linked with Rangers.
