Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey was delighted to score his first Eredivisie goal for Ajax in their 4-2 victory at Volenda over the weekend.
After enduring four games without a win, including losses to Liverpool, AZ Alkmaar and Napoli, Ajax returned to winning ways on Saturday.
Bassey scored his first goal for Ajax since joining from Glasgow Rangers in the summer, as the Dutch giants bashed Volendam 4-2 away from home.
The win comes days after Ajax suffered a humiliating 6-1 home defeat to Napoli in the Champions League.
Responding to the big defeat to Napoli in the Champions League on YouTube channel, Bassey said, “How do you think it would be after that (Napoli loss)? Of course, it was not nice. Nobody wants to be on the receiving end of it.
“But the most important thing for us is to try to wipe it clear and go because we do have quality in our team.
“We showed it a lot more near the beginning of the season, the quality we have and how we can play. It’s just about getting back to that level.”
Bassey will be hoping Ajax get the chance to redeem their reputation when they play Napoli at the Diego Maradona Stadium in the reverse fixture on Wednesday.
