Barcelona have officially ended their LaLiga drought spanning the last three seasons as they have won the 2022/23 season with a spectacular 2-4 win over Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium.
Barcelona were involved in a title race across the last three seasons, with Real Madrid winning the league in 2019/20 and 2021/22, and Atletico Madrid winning it in 2020/21.
They have been a dominant force in the league this season, though, winning 27 games out of a possible 34 so far, drawing four and losing three. During this time, they have scored 64 goals and conceded just 11 – a European record.
They have won the title with four games to spare, and with a massive 14 point gap over second best Real Madrid.
This is also their second trophy of the season, having won the Spanish Super Cup 3-1 against Real Madrid earlier this season.
Barcelona have 85 points, 14 more than nearest rivals Real Madrid, with 12 points left to play for.
It is their first La Liga title since club legend Lionel Messi left in August 2021 and first since Xavi was appointed manager in November 2021.
Meanwhile, Espanyol are in danger of a second relegation in four seasons from La Liga after a ninth league defeat in 11 games.
They are four points from safety with four matches left.
