The outgoing Captain of Ikeja Golf Club Olusina Akinyemi has highlighted his achievements in office, reflecting with immense gratitude on the collaborative spirit exemplified by members for making the 2023/24 committee year truly memorable for all.
Akinyemi while addressing the press during this year Captain’s Day and Prize presentation held at the club’s house Ikeja last Saturday, stated that the outgoing year has been awesome.
According to him, the theme for 2024 Captain’s Day event, is celebrating service to Ikeja Golf club and to the game of golf in general.
Akinyemi said his committee defied all the odds with determination to achieve their set targets. He listed some of the key achievements of the committee to the rebuilding of Hole 1 Green to a USGA standard, spending over 100, 000 pounds on course maintenance equipments as well as initiating support for the Integrated Golf Range/Car Park project.
“This year has been quite interesting. The very first thing we did when we came was to rebuild one of the Greens,” Akinyemi said.
“There has been a notion that Ikeja Greens are too hard. So, we had to rebuild one of the Greens.
“We rebuild the Hole 1 green, particularly to demonstrate that it is possible to build a green that will hold ball. We deferred to the USGA guidelines for the green construction.
We also followed their guidelines for these constructions, and we rebuild the Hole 1 green.
In his appreciation to all the members for their support to the committee, Akinyemi said, “As my tenure as captain draws to a close, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one for the unwavering support you have provided to the 2023/24 management committee.
“From the diligently completing questionnaires in April to generously contributing to the range project and the Captain’s Day festivities, your love for and dedication to the club has left a profound and lasting impact on me.”
