Sergio Aguero has jokingly pleaded with countryman Nicolas Otamendi not to injure Lionel Messi after the former Manchester City defender’s were drawn against the Argentina captain’s PSG in the Champions League group stage.
Group H of the Champions League sees PSG and Benfica joined by Italian giants Juventus and Israeli Premier League champions Maccabi Haifa.
Speaking on his Twitch channel, Aguero pleaded with Otamendi to avoid injuring the Argentinian talisman when Benfica meet PSG ahead of the Qatar World Cup in December.
“PSG, Juventus, Benfica… Otamendi is going to have to put in a couple of kicks. Otamendi is at Benfica, so he’s going to have to start hitting and he’s going to cross it with Leo.
“Don’t hurt Leo, because I’ll kill you. The World Cup is coming, Ota.” Aguero added.
Aguero also joked that Otamendi will waste no time in getting physical with another member of the Argentina squad, Angel Di Maria.
“Oh, you also meet ‘Fideo’ [Angel Di Maria] in Juventus. Oh, Otamendi.
How bad we are seeing it with Otamendi. Otamendi has to hit a good kick to both players. Spicy.”
Messi endured a difficult maiden season in Ligue 1, struggling to find his form despite PSG being crowned champions for the eighth time in the last ten seasons.
The Argentinian captain appears to be back to his best now, however, having netted three times and contributed two assists in just three league games so far this season.
Qatar will mark Messi’s fifth appearance in the World Cup finals, and at 35-year-old, the former Barcelona star may be approaching his final opportunity to end Argentina’s 26-year drought in the competition.
