AfroBasket: D’Tigress beat Mozambique, face Rwanda in semi-final

An Amy Okonkwo inspired D’Tigress produced a stunning comeback to beat Mozambique by 59-52 points and advance to the semi-final of the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBastket tournament in Rwanda on Wednesday.
Despite coming into the quartre-final by making a lightwork of their group opponents, the D’Tigress were given a run for their money by the Mozambicans who took an 18-16 points lead in the first quarter.
Nigeria trailed by as much as 10 points during the second quarter, but the team managed to cut the lead to four points as Mozambique still led by 33-29 points.
Okonkwo led the D’Tigress’ comeback in the third quartre with 17 points and three rebounds to put Nigeria in the lead with 47-43 points.
Rena Wakama’s side completed the turnaround in the fourth quatre as the game ended 59-52 in favour of Nigeria.
The D’Tigress will continue their quest for a fourth consecutive title on Thursday (today) as they face hosts Rwanda at the BK arena in the first semi-final.
The other semi-final is between Senegal and Mali.
Nigeria are the defending champions of the Women’s AfroBasket and have won the title consecutively in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
