The abridged 2022/23 season of the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership came to an end on Wednesday with some intriguing results from the two groups, The PUNCH reports.

In Group A, Delta Queens cemented the top spot after securing a point in a tightly contested game against Rivers Angels at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Delta State.

They topped the group with 26 points, a point more than second-place Bayelsa Queens, who thrashed Naija Ratels 3-0 at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenago.

Rivers Angels clinched the third position in Group A with 20 points.

Delta Queens, champions Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels will all take part in the Super Six after finishing the group in first, second and third positions respectively.

Meanwhile, Ratels occupy the fourth position to maintain their topflight status alongside Heartland Queens and Royal Queens, who both finished in fifth and sixth positions respectively, while Osun Babes were relegated to the second division after finishing bottom of Group A with seven points.

In Group B, barring defeat to Abia Angels, Edo Queens will finish the season as their group leaders after their both sides had their clash on Wednesday abandoned.

The game between was rescheduled to Thursday (today) following a downpour.

“The remainder of the abandoned match between Abia Angels and Edo Queens due to the downpour will be continued at the Umuahia Township Stadium by 8am on Thursday, April 20, 2023. The MD14 match was brought to a halt in the 30th minute,” the NWFL stated on Twitter on Wednesday.

Robo Queens’ 4-0 thrashing of Confluence Queens means the Lagos-based club moved to second with 22 points, the same points and goals difference with Edo Queens, while Confluence Queens dropped to third position with 21 points.

Regardless of the outcome of the rescheduled game, Edo Queens, Robo Queens and Confluence Queens have guaranteed their places in the Super Six.

In the other game in Group B, Nasarawa Amazons humiliated Adamawa Queens 5-0 at the Snake Farm Stadium in Nasarawa.
The result means the Amazons finished fourth on the log with 20 points, ahead of Adamawa Queens, who currently occupy fifth position with 14 points, but could drop to sixth depending on the outcome of the game between Edo Queens and Abia Angels.

Ibom Angels are however relegated after finishing bottom of the group with just six points.
