Bundesliga strugglers, Hertha Berlin, have been handed a big boost in the quest to stay in the topflight after it was announced that Nigeria international Chidera Ejuke has returned to training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Ejuke joined Hertha Berlin from CSKA Moscow on a season-long loan deal last summer. However, after a decent start to life that saw him register three assists in 15 appearances for the Bundesliga strugglers, Ejuke suffered an injury last December.

Ejuke suffered the ligament injury after he twisted his knee in a 7-1 friendly win against an American side USA.

The Nigerian was initially expected to be out for three weeks but his injury took longer than expected.

The club, however, announced on their website that the player had returned to training and would be available for selection.

“While Kélian Nsona (build-up) and Stevan Jovetić (muscular problems) were absent, Jean-Paul Boëtius and Chidera Ejuke were back among their teammates. Our numbers 10 and 40 will increase our soccer coach’s options on the offensive in the future.”

Since his injury, the 25-year-old has missed 13 Bundesliga matches and missed out on the Super Eagles squad for the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers games against Guinea-Bissau last month.

Prior to his injury, Ejuke had featured in all 15 Bundesliga games for Berlin, starting nine games and coming off the bench on six occasions.

Pál Dárdai will hope to bank on the left-winger when they play Werder Bremen on Saturday. The Old Lady are bottom of the league with 22 points after 28 games and are without a win in their last five matches.
