Nigeria Professional Football League referee, Kingsley Eneogwe, who passed away in a road accident on February 2 was buried on Thursday in his hometown Unuagwu, Ibeku Autonomous Community, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

The NPFL was thrown into mourning over the death of the young ref, who lost his life while returning home, after serving as an assistant referee during the Nasarawa United vs Plateau United game in Kaduna on match-day five.

The funeral service was attended by members of the Nigeria Referees Association and the Abia State Football Association, as well as representatives of the Interim Management Committee of the league.

“The NRA leadership has established contact with the family and council over the matter after sending condolences. The association is not only in touch but also working with the family on the next step. May his soul rest in peace,” NRA said in a statement after his demise.

The IMC also described the incident as tragic.

Until his death, Nnaemeka was also a medical doctor and obtained his referee licence in 2012, before rising through the ranks to become an NPFL referee four years ago.
