Group gives reasons for Tinubu football tourney

A group, Youth Professionals for Tinubu, has explained why they organised said a two-day football tournament recently among clubs in Lagos State.

Speaking at the finals held at the Police College, Ikeja, Chairman of the group, John Ikeotuonye, explained that the championship was put together to drum support for the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and also educate the youths on the importance of exercising their franchise as well as voting in a credible, reliable, capable and tested technocrat, who would give them a say in government.

“This championship organised by YP4T was put together to create political awareness among the youths and make them realise the importance of casting their votes for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is the most capable person that will take over from President Mohammadu Buhari come May 29.

“We’re also identifying with him because we discovered that among all the leading presidential candidates, he’s the only one that will give youths more opportunities in his government and mentor some to take over leadership positions in the country. So, the tournament was just a wake-up call.

Tournament Director, Alex Oware, added, “I’m very excited that we achieved our aim of organising the tournament because many youths came out to identify with us and as a body we’ll continue to carry out projects that will impact positively on the country’s teeming youths, who are the leaders of tomorrow.”

In the final match, Rising Star, Ikeja defeated hard-fighting Funfon of Badagri 4-2 on penalties after regulation time ended goalless to emerge winners of the competition, while the third-place match was won by Depros of Ikeja, who beat Amoros of Agege by 2-0.

Winners of the competition went home with N250,000, while the first and second runners-up got N150,000 and N100,000 respectively. Each participating team also got an appearance cash reward of N50,000, branded T-shirts and other consolation gifts.There were also awards for best goalkeeper, highest goal scorer and fair play award
