Coach Sean Dyche is the new man with the task of taking Everton out of relegation in the English Premier League after the club settled for him as the new manager.
His appointment is coming few days after Chelsea legend Frank Lampard was sacked from same position. His sack became imminent as the club remained in relegation zone, particularly 19th position of the league table.
Dyche spent nine-and-a-half years with Burnley before he was sacked by the Clarets in 2022.
Everton have moved quickly to wrap up a deal for Dyche after failing to convince No 1 choice Marcelo Bielsa to take the job.
Bielsa was the preferred candidate to take the vacancy – Sportsmail revealed on Thursday the Argentine flew into London for talks with the club.
This discussions with the Argentine have been described as positive, but the club feel a quick appointment is necessary and have turned to Dyche.
Despite Bielsa’s arrival yesterday, there was an acknowledgement from Everton that persuading the ex-Leeds boss would prove tough.
Bielsa held reservations over whether the current squad can adapt to his high-energy style.
However, the very fact Bielsa has flown into the capital to meet Everton had sparked optimism that a deal was achievable.
Indeed, Bielsa was keen on the job – but wanted to start in the summer.
Former Toffees boss Sam Allardyce was another considered, as was Davide Ancelotti, the son of ex-Goodison gaffer Carlo, while former Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl was also on the shortlist.
Dyche first game is against league leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park on February 4, 2023.
The Toffees then make the short trip across Stanley Park to face Liverpool at Anfield nine days later.
