According to Italian journalist, Maurizio De Giovanni, Victor Osimhen’s style of play is the reason for the injuries he sustains while playing for Serie A side, Napoli, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Giovanni was on the programme “Il Bello del Calcio” on Wednesday talking about the start of the 2022/23 Serie A season by Napoli under Luciano Spalletti.

On the topic of Osimhen, he said, “There is a concerning aspect regarding the Nigerian on which one must reflect, he hurts himself with disturbing frequency. His way of being on the field, impetuous, made up of advances and snatches often causes injuries.”

Giovanni went on to say that since the Nigeria international has been absent, Napoli’s other options in attack have not had such injuries.

“(Giacomo) Raspadori and (Giovanni) Simeone did not hear of it. There is a lack of injuries and this is a big difference with what happened in the past with Osimhen.”

Giovanni then went on to say there is a great balance in the Napoli squad.

“There is a great balance in the squad available to Spalletti and then there is hunger, willpower and availability that are the result of having won little.

“It seems to me that the club also has a will to win with these guys and a medium-long term program. This does not mean that such an attitude can lead to the title with certainty, but the components are there. (Piotr) Zielinski is a bit key to this start of the season.

“Last year the Pole suffered from the presence of Fabian Ruiz and Insigne, he needs space to work on the pitch. With (Khvicha) Kvaratskhelia, who is more forward than (Lorenzo) Insigne, and (Zambo) Anguissa, who holds the defense, they have gained more.”

Osimhen has now resumed training following his latest injury, a muscle problem he suffered in Napoli’s 4-1 win against Liverpool in their UEFA Champions League Group A opening game.

The Nigerian has missed the Partenopei’s last three games against Spezia, Glasgow Rangers and AC Milan, which they won. He also missed the Eagles’ friendlies against Algeria which they drew 2-2 and lost 2-1.
