Enyimba striker, Chijioke Mbaoma, is dreaming of completing a double in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season by helping Enyimba win a 10th title and also claim the highest goal scorer award, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The bullish striker is currently on 11 goals, tied with Remo Stars’ Sikiru Alimi at the top of the chart for this season’s gong.

Like his club, Mbaoma started the season slowly, scoring just two goals in their first 10 matches but has returned nine in his last 12 games.

Enyimba, who won their ninth title last season, are currently fifth in the table – three points behind leaders Lobi Stars.

“There is nothing done differently per se. We’ve just been working hard as a team and it’s working for me. It has not been easy but all thanks to my coaches and my teammates. We have a target, so, we must achieve that,” Mbaoma told PUNCH Sports Extra.

“I’ll be very excited to get the double,  win the league and also win the highest goal scorer award. It will be even more because that will be the 10th as well as back-to-back titles for me and the club.”

This season’s competition for the highest goal scorer award has been gradually heating up, with Mbaoma, Alimi (11 each) and Plateau United’s Albert Hilary (10) already in double figures but the striker is unfazed by the challenge.

“From the onset, I always wanted to win the award. I really didn’t get carried away by the number of goals the other players scored before me. I have always believed I will get to the top of the chart. I have 11 now and I am looking forward to more,” Mbaoma noted.

“And honestly, I wasn’t looking at the NPFL record at the start of the season, but you never can tell how things might turn out, especially with the competition we have,” he added.

Mbaoma’s 11th goal of the season was a penalty in the 3-1 loss to Akwa United on Monday and he will hope to add to that when they return home to face Doma United on Sunday.
