Kelechi Iheanacho and Paul Onuachu have arrived at the Super Eagles camp in Abidjan in time for the team’s opening game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The duo arrived in Abidjan on Saturday morning, according to head coach, Jose Peseiro.

Iheanacho’s arrival was delayed due to a muscle injury.

Onuachu was a late replacement for the injured Umar Sadiq.

“Iheanacho arrived this (Saturday) morning, he came in around 4am,” Peseiro told a press conference in Abidjan on Saturday morning.

“We spoke with Leicester City and it was agreed he remained with them to complete his treatment.

“I spoke with the medical team and they told me he has totally recovered from the injury. Onuachu also arrived at the same time with Iheanacho.”

Meanwhile, Nice striker, Terem Moffi, is expected to join the rest of the squad on Sunday (today) at 8pm, which automatically rules him out of the opening clash against Equatorial Guinea.

Moffi was listed in the provisional squad for the tournament but missed out on coach Jose Peseiro’s final squad for the tournament.

However, the Portuguese gaffer called up the striker after Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface pulled out of the squad following a groin injury in Abu Dhabi last week.

“For the Boniface injury, you know, Moffi will arrive tomorrow (Sunday) at 8pm., and Sadiq’s injury also, Onuachu arrived this morning at 4am. Not good for them but because they love this competition, they are here.”

Nigeria will open their campaign at the AFCON 2023 finals against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday. The continent’s football showpiece event is broadcast live by StarTimes.
