Enyimba head coach, Finidi George, has emphasised the importance of squad depth as the two-time CAF Champions League winners return to the continental competition in a couple of months, The PUNCH reports.
Finidi led Enyimba to their ninth Nigeria Professional Football League title earlier this month after finishing the Super 6 playoffs with a superior goal difference ahead of Remo Stars and Rivers United in Lagos.
His eventual success last season followed a disappointing run in 2022 when the club missed out on the continental spot for the first time in recent years.
After their triumph, the former Super Eagles winger was quick to turn his attention to the next task as looks to make an impact with the Aba-based giants in the CAF Champions League next season.
“It’s a big thing for us to return to the continental football, that’s where we belong,” Finidi stated.
“We won’t relent, we will continue to work hard to make an impact next season in the CAF Champions League.”
To achieve that, the gaffer understands how important squad depth is for such and he said they will recruit rightly to give the best performance in the competition.
‘’The CAF Champions League will be a difficult one no doubt, it is good to see us back there. We have a good team, but we still have to beef up the team, we must have depth in our team, and we would definitely bring in players where we think we lack and the process is ongoing to see those who will come in and those who will also leave,” Finidi told Elegbete TV.
While there are no confirmed signings yet, the Peoples Elephant were recently rumoured to be in talks with former Arsenal and Cameroonian midfielder, Alex Song.
They have also been linked with 3SC duo Anthony Okachi and Malomo Taofeek, just as it has been rumoured that Lobi Stars forward, Joseph Atule, who was initially linked with Rivers United, might join the league champions.
