Former Nigeria U-20 striker, Muhammed Tijani, is keen to surpass the impressive performances of his former compatriots at Slavia Prague after signing a long-term deal with the Czech Republic giants, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 22-year-old recently completed a move from another Czech team Banik Ostrava and will join a list of players who had their roots at his Lagos-based academy, 36 Lion FC to play for the Red and Whites.
Tijani, who scored eleven goals for Baník Ostrava last season, signed a contract with Slavia Prague until June 2028 and is already training with the team.
He is considered as a direct replacement for another Nigerian striker of 36 Lions FC descent, Peter Olayinka who spent four years at the club, scoring an impressive 50 goals and 26 assists in 182 appearances.
Tijani, brimming with enthusiasm, welcomed the challenge, stating, “I am thrilled by this opportunity. Joining Slavia is precisely the kind of challenge I sought after. I eagerly anticipate the European matches and the support of the fans.
“My aspiration is to become the top scorer in the league one day. I know Igoh from our time in the youth team, and he holds a special place in my heart. Olayinka has undoubtedly been an inspiration, not only to me but to other Nigerian footballers. I aspire to achieve a similar level of success in the future.”
Since leaving the academy to join Banik Ostrava, Tijani has endured a series of loan spells at Trinec, Karvina, and Taborsko all in the Czech Republic.
He enjoyed a successful 2022/2023 season at Taborsko in the Fortuna Liga season scoring 11 goals in the league and one in the cup.
Tijani participated in the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup as a member of the Nigerian under-20 team where he scored a goal in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Ukraine.
