I'll never forget my goal against Liverpool- Awoniyi

Nottingham Forest star Taiwo Awoniyi has told reporters that he’d love to play for Arsenal one day during his career. The striker has just finished his maiden campaign in the Premier League for the Reds.

Awoniyi proved to be a bit of a slow burner at the City Ground. He started somewhat slowly but grew as the season progressed, finishing with 11 goals in all competitions as Forest stayed up.

The 25-year-old had a frustrating time of things at Liverpool when he was on their books. He failed to get a work permit for several years and then when he finally did get one, he’d already taken the decision to leave.

Awoniyi was a machine for Forest towards the end of the 2022/23 campaign. He scored twice against Southampton and Chelsea, scoring further goals against Arsenal and Crystal Palace in the final two games.

His form has earned him a recall to the Nigeria setup. He’s in the squad for the game against Sierra Leone which took place earlier today and he will be hoping to get some minutes.

Awoniyi has now lifted the lid on the clubs he followed growing up. It’s become apparent that Arsenal are the one club in the Premier League that he’d dearly love to turn out for one day.

He told Soccer Net of Nigeria, “I like to dream big even if no one believes in it, even secondary schoolmates can testify to that. I used to tell them then, that one day, I would play for a PPL club like Arsenal because I supported them when I was younger.”

It was great to see Awoniyi get the goals that his work rate deserved throughout the season as the campaign drew to a close. He’s always been determined and fortune often favours the brave.

Awoniyi scored some brilliant goals towards the end of the season. Not only that, but some of his goals proved vitally important when it came to ensuring Forest remained in the Premier League.

Arsenal are unlikely to be moving for the Forest star any time soon. They have a host of strikers and won’t have a place for the Reds performer just yet.

If the Forest man can continue improving, however, who knows what the future holds? Although Awoniyi can sometimes be found wanting technically, his brute strength makes him a very useful player indeed.
