Remo Stars coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, will be looking to secure his side’s first win at the ongoing 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League Super 6 playoffs when they take on Sunshine Stars in a southwest derby on Wednesday (today) in Lagos, The PUNCH reports.

The Sky Blue Stars are battle-hardened after dramatically dropping points in their first two games against eight times championsEnyimba and defending champions Rivers United.

Captain Junior Nduka scored a late equaliser to earn them a 2-2 draw against Enyimba on Saturday, while another stoppage time goal by Lukman Adefemi ensured Rivers United drew 2-2 against them in their second game.

Ahead of their third game against Sunshine Stars, Ogunmodede feels his side have faced the toughest of opposition in the Super 6 and are primed to reignite their quest for a continental ticket or even the title.

“I have to say we have played the clubs with the biggest history in Nigeria, but it’s disappointing we couldn’t get a win. Maybe inexperience, but we were still in the euphoria of the goal we scored in stoppage time (against Rivers) and before we could blink, they had equalised. But it’s football, we just move on.

“We have a way of turning things around because we have nine points to fight for and that’s our focus. We believe it’s possible,” Ogunmodede said on Monday, after their stalemate against Rivers.

Sunshine Stars are also winless in the competition and their coach, Edith Agoye, has urged his players to keep the hope alive as they go into the crucial game against Remo.

“A point was better than losing, Insurance are a very good side, but I believe the job isn’t done yet, we keep pushing until we achieve our set targets,” Agoye said after their 1-1 draw on Monday.

Before the Remo versus Sunshine Stars game, Bendel Insurance and Enyimba will lock horns in another crucial game, while Lobi Stars and Rivers United will face off in the last kick-off of the day.

Enyimba and Rivers are currently joint-top of the Super 6 table with four points each, while Remo are third with two points, same as Insurance, who are fourth. Sunshine Stars have one point to occupy the fifth position, while Lobi Stars are bottom of the table with a point.
