A Belgian football expert, Stef Wijnants, has cited an imbalance in the comparison between struggling Genk striker, Tolu Arokodare and their former hitman, Paul Onuachu, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
KRC Genk signed Arokodare as a replacement for Onuachu, who made a move to join Southampton in January, but the new striker has failed to hit the ground running since making the move from French side Amiens.
After penning a four-and-a-half-year deal, the 22-year-old, who shares the same physical attributes with his countryman Onuachu, scored on his debut against Gent and grabbed his first assist for the side against Mechelen.
A knee injury, however, halted his form in February, going off after 12 minutes in their 3-0 win over Oostende.
But since his return from injury in April, the lanky striker has struggled for form and it became worrisome on Sunday in their 3-1 win over Club Brugge as he was substituted at half-time.
Throughout the game, Arokodare struggled, prompting concerns about his ability to shoulder the weight of expectations left by Onuachu.
Wijnants, in his analysis, emphasised that Arokodare’s performance in Bruges was far from impressive. “Tolu fell heavily through the ice in Bruges. It didn’t look good at all,” Wijnants remarked, as reported by Voetbalnieuws.
“It’s not because he’s the same size as Onuachu that he finds his way to the nets as easily. He does not have the same feet for a long time and was rightly substituted,” Wijnants stated.
Arokodare has only one more game to impress this season, which is their last game against Antwerp on Sunday. Genk are third on the table with 45 points, one point behind Antwerp and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
