Super Falcons star, Rasheedat Ajibade, was delighted after seeing Atletico Madrid triumph over bitter rivals Real Madrid in the final of the Copa de la Reina on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Rojiblancas already claimed the trophy for the second time having done so already in 2016.
Celebrating her third major club title since she arrived in Spain in January 2021, Ajibade wrote, “The blessing is mine, the testimony belongs to Jesus.”
With Champions League hope dented after finishing in fourth position, winning the Copa de la Reina was a golden opportunity for Atlético to wrap up this campaign on a high and they did that by beating Madrid 3-1 on penalty after the game had ended 2-2 in the regulation time.
Goals from Lucía Moral (88′) and Banini (95′) neutralized those from Toletti and Ivana Andrés for Real Madrid and sent the final to extra time.
The white team missed three penalty kicks in the shootout and the trophy went to a Mattress team that never stopped believing.
Ajibade played a crucial role as she created the first two chances of the game but her teammates failed to apply the needed finish to put them ahead.
The Nigerian was a thorn in Real Madrid’s defense, who were caught almost napping on the field, but her shot in the 15th minute went wide.
The 23-year-old was in action for the entire 90 minutes and was influential as the Rojiblancas came from two goals down to snatch the win.
