Head coach of 3SC, Gbenga Ogunbote, has promised the club will strive to maintain their form as the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League season progresses.

Few minutes after Sikiru Alimi missed from the spot, Johsua Akpan’s stoppage time goal secured maximum points for Ogunbote’s side against Kwara United in Akure on Sunday, leaving them sixth on the table with 16 points, five points adrift of a top-three finish with six matches to go.

The Oluyole Warriors have overcome a string of poor form to bounce back to winning ways with back-to-back victories against Plateau United and Kwara United.

Since his infamous exit at Sunshine Stars in 2021, when he oversaw an 18-game winless run, Ogunbote has returned to Akure twice and recorded victory; first with Remo Stars over Sunshine Stars last season and now 3SC over Kwara United.

Speaking after his side’s 1-0 win over Kwara United in dramatic fashion, the nomadic gaffer refused to be carried away by the two straight wins, saying that the team would continue to fight to get better.

“It is a good thing that we won, but that is not to say we are there yet. We will keep on pushing to get to that level we are aiming. The important thing is that we are winning after a winless run and we are not ready to take our feet off the pedal.”

Ogunbote also hailed his players for keeping their heads high, despite the winless run.

“I must commend my players for their doggedness and ruggedness, which resulted in the win over Plateau United and our first win on the road.

3SC’s next game is a home date with Remo Stars in a southwest derby next Sunday.
