Bendel Insurance midfielder Divine Nwachukwu says he can’t wait for the resumption of the Nigeria Premier Football League having just hit top gear for his club on return from a long injury layoff, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Nwachukwu scored his first goal this season during their 3-1 win over Sporting Lagos in a match-day 19 encounter in Benin City on Saturday – in what was his fifth game of the season and second start.

He has been out with a thigh injury since the end of last season, after being instrumental to their 21-game unbeaten run in the league as well as their triumph in the Federation Cup.

The 20-year-old, who had five goals and five assists last season, is thrilled to be back among the scorers for Insurance after a long time.

“I’ve been getting stronger with every game and I’m glad to have scored my first goal this season. It’s one of those things that I look forward to contributing to the team, so, there will be many more as the season progresses,” Nwachukwu told our correspondent.

Since his return from injury, the Benin Arsenal have won three out of five games, drawing one and losing one and he is confident the mid-season break will not alter their momentum.

“We are aware of the need to be back in contention for our objectives this season, so, the break is only an opportunity to reassess the team and work on other areas. Personally, I’m looking forward to the resumption and I will take advantage of the period to improve as well,” the player said.

Bendel Insurance are currently seventh in the NPFL with 30 points after 19 matches.
